Rosemary Alexander founded the English Gardening School in 1983, has many awards, has judged and lectured world wide as well as writing books and being a Trustee of Great Dixter. We are privileged to pay a visit to her own ‘teaching’ garden at Rogate which she began in 2001 after leaving her tenancy at NT Stoneacre in Kent. Although only approximately 1 acre it is packed full of wonderful plant combinations. She confesses not always to practice what she preaches as she is a plantaholic and is constantly making improvements.
Rosemary will give refreshments and a personal tour of her garden.
It is not far to Chawton House where Jane Austen lived in a cottage on the estate owned by her brother Edward. We have arranged for a self-guided tour of the house and garden here and although the gardens may not be spectacular we think it will be an interesting afternoon visit. The house is a charity with many treasures, including Austen heirlooms and an extensive collection of early women’s writing.
